What is Self-Pour University?

This is where we show you how to take your self-pour idea from “idea” to solid action plan to reality; in as direct a line as possible. Orientation (Intro)

PourMyBeer has helped hundreds of people create profitable self-pour businesses – from craft beer taprooms to fast casual restaurants and hotel lobby systems.  After helping all these customers navigate the process, we decided to help everyone by distilling this knowledge and putting it all in one easy-to-access place, and voila, Self-Pour University was born!  By the time you’re done with the below you’ll be all set with a clear map of how to open your own self-pour place. We’ll be adding resources here constantly – from PDF’s to videos and upcoming webinars or events – so be sure to check back often. Cheers!

Undergraduate (Planning)

  1. Use our (Build your budget) spreadsheet to have solid estimates of what it will cost to open up and where/ how you can possibly save a few dollars
  2. What makes a good lease vs. a bad lease?
  3. Foot traffic and parking
  4. Kitchen or Not (We suggest Not)

Masters (Design + Permitting)

You’ve got the financing in place, the lease and the design, now it’s time to bring all this magic together.

  • What’s your business name? Logo? Theme? Community?
  • Set up your social media accounts, yelp, google maps, Insta
  • Communicating with your Project Manager weekly
  • Passing all of your inspections
  • Design Ideas/ budgeting
  • The cooler and dispense system.

PhD (Opening, Operations & Building a community)

Practice doesn’t make perfect, Perfect Practice makes Perfect. We will provide you with the checklists and SOP’s you need to bring your staff up to speed on everything from how to change a keg, to how to manage the guest flow. You want to make all or most of your mistakes on friends and family and a soft opening. Once you learn from those and are ready for the REAL opening, we’ll help plan your big day so that you can maximize the honeymoon period. We’ve helped a lot of customers create enough buzz to have 5 figure opening days and 6 figure opening months. The numbers vary based off of your location.
